PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY

Parents/carers are the first educators of their young children.  We regard relationships with parents/carers as crucial.  We expect them to know that we support their efforts and want to work with them to achieve the best for their children.  We want parents/carers to feel that any concerns are met with understanding.  The aim of the group is to support their essential work, not to supplant them.  We are always warm and welcoming to people in the group and maintain appropriate boundaries with parents/carers and children.
We will:

Ensure that a member of staff is always available for discussion with parents/carers and arrangements can be made for more private discussions at agreed times.

Ensure that information provided by parents /carers about their children will be kept confidential and treated on a strictly “need to know” basis.

Make all new parents/carers aware of the group’s systems and policies.

Encourage parents/carers on an individual basis to play an active part in the management of the group.

Ensure that parents/carers are informed on a regular basis about their child’s progress.  Information regarding the children’s activities is always available to parents.

Ensure that all parents/carers have opportunities to contribute from their own skills, knowledge and interests to the activities of the group.

Involve parents/carers in shared record keeping about their own child, either formally or informally.

Ensure that parents/carers are fully informed about meetings, conferences, workshops and training.

Consult with families about the times of meetings to avoid excluding anyone.

Hold meetings in venues which are accessible and appropriate to all.

Welcome the contributions of parents/carers, whatever form these may take.

Make known to all parents/carers the system for registering queries, complaints or suggestions.

Provide opportunities for parents/carers to learn about the playgroup curriculum and about young children’s learning, in playgroup and at home.

If we have any concerns about a child’s well-being during the session every effort will be made to contact the parents/carers or their emergency contact.
